以弗所（Ｅｐｈｅｓｕｓ）是希腊及罗马时代的重要城市。这座城以供奉希腊女神阿蒂米丝（Ａｒｔｅｍｉｓ）闻名。Ａｃｔｓ１９：２７－２８27 And there is danger not only that this trade of ours may come into disrepute but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis may be counted as nothing, and that she may even be deposed from her magnificence, she whom all Asia and the world worship.”28 When they heard this they were enraged and were crying out, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
以弗所最辉煌的时候，城中有阿蒂米丝神庙、Ｃｅｌｓｕｓ图书馆，还有可以容纳２５０００人的露天剧院。Ａｃｔｓ １９：２９ 29 Soon the whole city was in an uproar. The people seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia, and all of them rushed into the theater together.
Ａｃｔｓ １８：２４－２８24 Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor[a] and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately. 27 When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers and sisters encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. When he arrived, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed. 28 For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah.
１ Ｃｏｒｉｎｔｈｉａｎｓ １５：３２ If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”
１ Ｃｏｒｉｎｔｈｉａｎｓ １６：８ But I will stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost,
１ Ｔｉｍｏｔｈｙ １：３ 3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer
２ Ｔｉｍｏｔｈｙ １：１８May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day! You know very well in how many ways he helped me in Ephesus.
２ Ｔｉｍｏｔｈｙ ４：１２ I sent Tychicus to Ephesus.

Revelation 2:13 I know where you live—where Satan has his throne.
Revelation 2:12-17 To the Church in Pergamum 12 “To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. 13 I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives. 14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality. 15 Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. 17 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.
